Joseph Walsh, head of EMEA product marketing at GoTo

In this episode of the Next Stage podcast, GoTo head of EMEA product marketing Joe Walsh gives us insight into the state of play in remote working, and discusses the ways tech can help businesses to build connections and become more resilient.

Embracing the best practices of working from home, and better connecting with employees and customers, is what is differentiating the top businesses of today from the rest. But why are some companies ignoring this, even when remote-working technology seems to be increasing productivity and staff satisfaction?

GoTo found that nearly 80 percent of respondents to the company’s State of Worklife: 2022 survey said employee productivity was higher or somewhat higher in 2021 than 2020, while 77 percent of employees reported an at least partial increase in satisfaction with their role over the same period – all as a result of enforced working from home following the Covid-19 pandemic.

“One thing our research has shown is that, in 2022, there’s a big question mark over work models, whether it’s fully remote, in an office or hybrid,” said Joe.

“There are pros to each, but there are also cons to each. 100-percent remote is tough, not having a place where you can go in and meet your colleagues. Everything being in a virtual world – that isn’t something that everyone wants, but going 100-percent office-based puts that commute back on employees.”

Joe went on to explain that hybrid might seem like the ideal solution, but to keep in mind that there are lots of ways hybrid can be implemented. Businesses need to figure out a model that suits them best.

“We’ve been at the coalface. We’ve been helping a lot of businesses just come to terms with Covid-19, climate change, all the different challenges we’re faced with currently,” Joe explained.
